The American social network Instagram has blocked the accounts of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and his four sons, Akhmat, Adam, Eli, and Hamzat Kadyrov. Additionally, three channels of the Chechen television and radio company Grozny have become inaccessible on YouTube.
Chechen Minister for National Policy and Foreign Relations Akhmed Dudayev announced this on his Telegram channel. He was outraged that the Americans had restricted the freedom of speech of the war criminal and his heirs, who promoted the idea of the genocide of Ukrainians to the masses.
Ironically, the Russians did not share Dudayev's dissatisfaction. They reminded him that Instagram has been included in the register of banned sites by Roskomnadzor since March 14, 2022, and advised Kadyrov to maintain a page on Odnoklassniki.
He said that he would appeal the social network's decision so that Kadyrov's sons and himself could post photos and communicate with their followers.
Despite Putinists' expectations, the angry post did not evoke sympathy among readers who have been using only social media allowed in the country for almost two years, as Facebook and Instagram were only accessible to Russian citizens with a VPN.
