Stellantis on Wednesday reported another down quarter for its U.S. new vehicle sales, with a percentage decline nearly on par with its grim second quarter.

The automaker, which owns the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat brands, said its third quarter results showed a 20% U.S. sales drop compared with the same period a year ago, with total sales of 305,294 vehicles for the quarter, down from 380,563. Stellantis had reported a 21% decline compared with the year-ago period for the second quarter. The sales release came a day later than expected.

Another quarterly sales decline was anticipated, although possibly not as steep, particularly after the automaker signaled ongoing challenges in its key North American operations earlier this week and lowered its financial guidance for the year.

Among its brands, only low-volume Fiat registered an increase, with 316 vehicles sold.

Here's how the other brands fared: Jeep fell 6%, Ram dropped 19%, Chrysler fell 47%, Dodge declined 43% and Alfa Romeo decreased 29%.

The company did not release sales numbers for its luxury Maserati brand.

The company touted some improvements, including solid year-over-year increases in Jeep Compass, Dodge Hornet and Ram heavy-duty commercial fleet sales, and Matt Thompson, head of U.S. retail sales, noted some of the steps the company has undertaken to try to move product.
