A new daily high-speed train service between Berlin and Paris has started operations.
SNCF Voyageurs and Deutsche Bahn, the national train operators of France and Germany respectively, launched the new direct daytime service between the two capital cities on Monday (16 December).
The new service, which was announced earlier this year, uses DB’s InterCity Express (ICE) trains with a journey time of around eight hours.
The launch of the daytime train comes almost exactly a year after Austrian train operator ÖBB started its NightJet overnight service between Paris and Berlin, which operates three times per week.
DB’s ICE train offers a total of 444 seats, including 11 in first class. The service also stops at Strasbourg, Karlsruhe and Frankfurt during the journey.
Previously, passengers travelling between Paris and Berlin during the day needed to make at least one change of trains, with overall journey times of around 10 hours.
