The Georgian government will no longer prohibit the importation of vehicles older than 6 years into the country. Instead, according to the government's decision, the excise duty on importing such vehicles will be set at a specific amount - namely, GEL 4.5 per cubic centimeter.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced this at the government meeting.
"We introduced new regulations regarding the importation of vehicles older than 6 years. We want to make certain corrections to this decision. Specifically, instead of a ban on importation, vehicles older than 6 years will be subject to a customs clearance tariff of GEL 4.5 - that is, the excise duty will be set at the corresponding amount of GEL 4.5 per cubic centimeter. Accordingly, the ban on importation will be replaced by a correspondingly increased excise duty rate.
This decision is very important in order for us to take care of ecology, environmental protection, and air cleanliness - and it was precisely for this reason that the decision previously adopted by the government was dictated. We have introduced certain corrections to this decision, which are based on the interests of the relevant private entities and the interests of our citizens - a topic that was widely discussed in society," - stated the Prime Minister.
