Ryanair has announced its plans to launch a new seasonal route to Budapest from Poland’s Katowice Airport this summer.

The airline will operate flights twice a week to the Hungarian capital, starting from July 3 until October 23.

The Budapest flights mark the third new route to become available from Katowice Airport for the summer, with flights to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Brussels-Charleroi, Belgium, commencing March 31 and April 1 respectively.

In total, the Irish low-cost carrier will handle 23 regular routes from Katowice Airport to 12 different countries during summer 2025, including Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Norway, Spain, and various destinations in Italy and the UK.

Katowice Airport is one of the largest regional airports in Poland, expecting approximately seven million passengers to travel through it in 2025, and since its debut there in 2007, Ryanair is has become one of its most important carriers.

In October of 2019, the airline set up a base at Katowice Airport from which it operates a fleet of three Boeing 737-800s. As of the end of 2024, it handled 9.5 million passengers on regular and charter routes, and with a positive forecast for 2025, these figures are likely to increase.

Artur Tomasik, president of the board of the Upper Silesian Aviation group, commented on the new routes: “Ryanair is one of the biggest air carriers based at Katowice Airport. We are glad that the airline continuously expands its offer at our airport. We expect that Ryanair will handle approximately 1.3 million passengers in 2025 on regular routes available at Katowice Airport.”
