The opening of the season in Bakuriani is expected on December 25, Chairman of the Bakuriani Development Agency Ekaterine Orjonikidze says on air of the radio Commersant.

According to Ekaterine Orjonikidze, the resort had enough snow to open the season on December 7, 2024.

However, as this autumn is unusually warm and winter has not begun, and taking into account the long-term weather forecast, December 25 was chosen as the opening date for the season.

"Bakuriani is usually busy from December 28th to January 20th, and we hope the weather will allow us to meet the expectations of our vacationers. Last year, we had around 55,000 vacationers. Due to the resort's high occupancy, traffic jams start at the Borjomi Bridge. All services are mobilized to cope with the situation. I hope there won't be such a high occupancy this year, because last year it was a real disaster caused by traffic jams," says Ekaterine Orjonikidze.

In her words, Bakuriani could handle around 3,000 to 5,000 people years ago. The resort has grown since then, but because it's a pretty small town, the influx of vacationers creates certain difficulties.

"Last year, at the peak of the season, 55,000 people arrived. The narrow road to Bakuriani cannot accommodate so many cars. We have enough public transport, but even it cannot move in traffic jams. Furthermore, last year we couldn't take out the garbage on time, not because we weren't prepared, but due to traffic jams. Cars blocked access to the garbage bins. People should also bear some responsibility and if they need to go 100 meters, they shouldn’t drive there ," stresses Ekaterine Orjonikidze.
