US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on Thursday that the Donald Trump administration plans to widen its current travel ban from 19 countries to more than 30. Noem did not name which additional countries would be affected, but she confirmed the number will exceed 30.
“I won’t be specific on the number, but it’s over 30, and the president is continuing to evaluate countries,” she said in an interview on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle."
Her recommendation follows a public social-media post after a meeting with Trump, in which she called for a “full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”
On June 4, the White House issued a proclamation listing 19 countries, mostly from Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean, that face full or partial US immigration restrictions.
