In 2024, airports of Georgia will serve up to 6.8 million passengers.

According to the initial estimates, in the case of the construction of the Vaziani airport, Tbilisi will be able to receive more than 18 million passengers. This is stated in the government program, which was submitted to the Parliament of Georgia together with the renewed government.

Chairman of the Aviation Committee at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Giorgi Molodinashvili told "Commersant" that a 20% increase in the passenger flow of airports this year is qiute real.

"The 14% increase in passenger flow predicted by the government is real amid a growing interest of air carriers and visitors to Georgia. My prediction is that this year a 20% increase in the passenger flow is quite real.

The biggest problem in the local aviation is the scarcity and weak positions of Georgian airlines. If we want to develop the aviation along with the infrastructure, we must develop Georgian airlines which currently hold 5-6% of the market, the rest are held by foreign airlines. I have nothing against them, this is an international practice, but the country needs strong airlines to make the weather on the market and compete with international airlines.

In the recent periog 2-3 new airlines have been established, for example, Georgian wings started operating on the market and performs local and regional flights, but still more to be done in this regard. The government should be more active at international level, with investors and international airlines to enter this business and establish strong airlines with Georgian roots. Both the public and private sectors should be actively involved in the process," Giorgi Molodinashvili stresses.

A small cargo terminal will be built at the Kutaisi International Airport in order to utilize the air cargo potential in the region.

The Georgian government continues to stimulate domestic flights and the construction and development of domestic airports in order to promote the growth of mobility between regions and ensure fast and affordable travel for the local population, as well as domestic and international travelers.

In 2024, the construction and complete modernization of the Telavi Airport, as well as the design and construction of the new terminal of the Mestia Airport, is planned.
