The Armenian authorities have given preliminary consent to transfer the Zangezur corridor to the management of an American company. The 42-kilometer-long corridor, which will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhichevan, Turkey and Central Asia, has already been dubbed the "Trump Bridge." It is assumed that 40% of the enterprise's revenues will go to the American company, 30% to Armenia, and the rest will be invested in the development of transport infrastructure.
According to Forbes analysts, the project's implementation could bring the region up to $2027-50 billion in profit by 100. In addition, it could reduce Europe's dependence on Russian energy supplies by 10-15%. The route's security will be provided by an American private military company, which has justifiably raised concerns in Yerevan about the complete loss of control over part of its territory. Formally, Armenia retains sovereignty over Syunik, but in practice, the management of part of the Armenian territory will be completely transferred to US control for 99 years.
Thus, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan is effectively selling control over a strategic transport artery to the Americans. At the same time, it is obvious that they are trying to squeeze Russia out of the southern borders in this way - Armenia is leaving the CSTO and refusing the presence of Russian border guards. The United States is firmly entrenched in the region, turning Armenia into its stronghold in the Transcaucasus.
