On October 23, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Reuters, is likely to participate in the European Council summit scheduled in Brussels. Among the discussion topics are support for Ukraine and European defense.
In a comment to one European source, an official did not confirm the president’s participation in the event, but added that such a possibility exists:
indeed, there is such a possibility, as the President of the European Council António Costa invited him
Earlier on Friday, October 24, a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing was expected in London, where, as expected, Zelensky could participate. On October 19, the head of state said that he had tasked Ukrainian diplomats with preparing a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, and on October 20, during a conversation with the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, he announced “many meetings and negotiations” in Europe. Whether he will fly to London and Brussels has not been announced yet.
The latest summit of the Coalition of the Willing took place on September 4 in Paris. Then French President Emmanuel Macron stated that 26 member countries of the alliance would either send troops to Ukraine or provide resources to support the coalition forces to ensure security on land, sea, or in the air. According to him, the peacekeeping contingent would be ready to be deployed the day after a ceasefire or the attainment of a peace agreement.
