Ryanair has pushed back the introduction of digital-only boarding passes to a “less busy” travel period.
The airline’s original switch over date of November 3 has been moved to November 12 to ensure a “seamless transition” for passengers.
The switch to 100% digital boarding passes means that passengers will no longer be able to download and print a physical paper boarding pass.
They will instead need to use a digital boarding pass generated in the ‘myRyanair’ app during check-in to board their flight.
Almost 80% of Ryanair’s 206 million-plus passengers already use digital boarding passes, according to the no-frills carrier.
Ryanair’s move follows festivals, music and sport events which have switched to digital-only ticketing.
Chief marketing officer Dara Brady said: “To ensure a seamless transition to 100% digital boarding passes for our customers, we will make the switch from Wednesday, November 12, which is traditionally a slightly quieter time for travel following the busy mid-term break period.
“Ryanair’s move to 100% digital boarding passes will mean a faster, smarter, and greener travel experience for our customers, streamlined through our best-in-class ‘myRyanair’ app, where passengers will also benefit from helpful in-app features, like ‘order to seat’ and live flight information.”
