“We must defend our citizens' labor interests that is a principle upheld by any country that genuinely cares about its people and their well-being,” Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
The Prime Minister explained that certain sectors have been identified where employment of foreigners is permitted, and others where it is not advisable. He emphasised that this step is crucial to prevent excessive competition for employment among Georgian citizens.
“We must defend the labour interests of our people, which is standard practice in any nation that values its citizens. We have delineated the sectors where foreign employment is allowed and those where it is not advisable. This is crucial to avoid overwhelming our citizens with foreign competition in the job market. Regarding the decree, quotas have been established, including zero quotas in certain cases, which means that some sectors are entirely reserved for our citizens. Each decision was made with the interests of our people in mind, and we believe we have maximised the protection of their employment rights,” Kobakhidze affirmed.
According to the Georgian Government’s decree, foreigners without permanent residence permits are prohibited from working in sectors such as passenger transportation, courier services, and guiding.
