The Georgian government is not listening to its people and does not want to follow the European path, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, told reporters before the meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers.

“We are discussing the worrying developments in Georgia. The Georgian population has shown in the last three elections, in the ongoing protests, and polls that they want a European future, but the government does not. It seems that their government is not listening to its people and does not want to follow the European path. Opponents, as you know, are in prison, and the voices of journalists and civil society organizations are being silenced,” the European Commissioner noted.

According to her, those in power are facilitating the spread of disinformation against the EU in the country.

"Therefore, we condemn these false narratives and we condemn all attacks on European institutions, representatives of European institutions and our member states. We also call on the Georgian government to listen to its people, be inclusive, talk to civil society and follow their desire to become part of Europe," said Marta Kos.
