CEO of Kairos Logistics Mikhail Namadov believes that Zangezuri at this stage is just a project that will not have a significant impact on Georgia in the next 2-3 years.
“Currently it is a concept, and I do not expect that in the next 2-3 years we will experience any losses because of Zangezur project. In geopolitical terms, a very good step has been taken as peace in the region is very important. Zangezuri will be one of the additional chain, on the contrary, will provide the capacity increase and avoid
losing shipments that need fast delivery in peak seasons. In the long term, some will be redirected, but by the time as the World Bank study shows, about 9 million cargoes will be transported along the Middle Corridor,» Namadov states noting that Georgia is the first «artery» for China and Kazakhstan, and Zangezuri can be considered as an additional option.
In his view, Georgia has the prospect of becoming «Singapore of the Caucasus», and for the purpose, land and railway projects should be carried out.
«Road infrastructure is gradually developing, the railway modernization reform has already been announced. Georgia also needs large logistics centers with customs warehouses and railway tracks. Georgia may take on a long-term goal of positioning itself as the “Singapore of the Caucasus” by 2030. We have a chance to become one of the key hubs in the Caspian and Black Sea regions», - says Namadov.
