The energy sector needs a revival, according to Maya Melikidze, Executive Director of the Association for the Development of Renewable Energy. Maya Melikidze that Generation must outpace economic development.

In her words, the sector currently faces certain challenges, primarily related to a clearer and more defined strategy.

"We are transitioning to a new management system. The private sector needs to invest money, I mean investments, hire specialists, and we need to get answers to many questions. What we lack today is a clearer and more defined strategy. It's clear that reserved capacity has been released, the next stage will involve connections, and I don't rule out a third wave of all this. These measures will eventually clear the so-called ground, paving the way for a transition to a new phase that involves not just agreements but also completed projects, which is precisely which is what we truly need. For the first time this summer, we saw a massive surge in energy consumption, and we had to import power. It's something we can't escape, and I don't rule out that we'll face similar days next year.

"Dialogue and building bridges are crucial for achieving results, but time is of the essence right now. I think it's been more than 10 years since 2012, and after projects were delayed, we've reached this stage. The sector needs revitalization, we know perfectly well where we come from, don't we?! We have moved to a new stage - generation must outpace economic development. Ultimately, we lost the largest Namakhvani HPP project ," Maia Melikidze stresses.
