“Azerbaijani gas will be supplied to Georgia at a "social tariff" for the next 20 years,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a briefing in the Government Administration, extending gratitude to Azerbaijan.
According to the PM, agreements were concluded in several directions within the framework of his visit to Azerbaijan, including on transit and imports of gas from Azerbaijan.
Irakli Kobakhidze explained that the term of the previous agreement on social gas supply, signed for 20 years, was expiring at the end of 2026, and it was extended for another 20 years.
The PM did not go into details on the import and transit of electric power, saying it was a “commercial secret.”
“If it weren’t a commercial secret, the great benefits that this agreement brings to our country, to society, would become even clearer. We also have very good results in the electricity sector, which is very beneficial to the country and to society. As for the Baku-Tbilisi-Supsa pipeline, its functioning was suspended for 3 years; it did not work. Therefore, the country was losing potential revenue.
As a result of months of negotiations, we agreed with the Azerbaijani side that the operation of this pipeline will be restored, and on this basis, our country will receive tens of millions of Lari in revenue annually. The conditions on which we agreed with Azerbaijan are very favorable,” he said.
