For the first three months of 2026, 634 million GEL was reimbursed to businesses as VAT overpayments.
The State Treasury reports that 2.7 billion GEL in tax overpayments was returned to the private sector last year, up 6% or 175 million GEL year-on-year.
Since 2020, the volume of VAT refunds to businesses has been growing year-on-year.
Note: a fully automated VAT refund system for taxpayers has been functioning since 2020. It automatically credits overpaid VAT to the taxpayer's bank account based on monthly filed declarations.
