The government of Georgia's Black Sea region of Adjara daily reports on the increasing tourist flows and evaluates the current season as successful, but the hotel owners say that the number of tourists in seaside cities is not growing but, on the contrary, is down.
In particular, they say at King Solomon Hotel Batumi that the workload in summer was almost similar to the winter one that is unfavorable.
“This summer, the flow of tourists does not exceed the winter levels that is bad given that winter is not a holiday season and in summer the number of tourists is always much higher. The workload in our hotel this summer was similar to the winter one, ” say at the King Solomon Hotel Batumi.
Riviera Hotel in Kobuleti was only 30-40% occupied this summer.
“The hotel occupancy is low this season, our expectations for September are more bad than good. Now only luxury hotels and very inexpensive recreation areas are working
in the region while middle-class hotels are almost empty,” they say at the hotel.
Most hoteliers believe that the crisis on the Black Sea coast is mainly caused by the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.
“After the explosion, the security environment of the Black Sea region has become especially acute, for this reason many refrained from having rest on the Black Sea coast this year, despite statements by experts that the Black Sea is safe. As a result, many bookings have been cancelled," the hotel says.
