Georgian commercial banks hold more than 2.026 billion Russian rubles, which is confirmed by the statistics of the National Bank of Georgia. In particular, as of June 2025, the volume of rouble deposits amounted to GEL 69.022 million (GEL 2.026 billion at current exchange rate).
It is noteworthy that rouble deposits soared by 7% compared to the same period last year. According to the NBG statistics, as of June 2024, the rouble deposits in banks amounted to 64.447 million GEL.
For the currencies of other neighbouring countries, the rates are as follows:
• Turkish Lira - GEL 1,329,104 (current rate of 19.9 million liras)
• Azerbaijani manat - 87,939 GEL (55.2 thousand manat at current rate)
• Armenian dram - 104,995 GEL (14.87 million Armenian drams at today’s rate)
Additionally, according to the National Bank of Georgia's statistics, the majority of bank deposits are held in US dollars. Specifically, as of June, Georgian banks had 23.829 billion GEL in dollar deposits and 5.846 billion GEL in euros. Total deposits in the banking sector (not including inter-bank deposits) at the end of June 2025 amounted to GEL 60.77 billion, which is 1.85 billion or 3.15% more than at the end of the previous month (3% more without exchange rate influence). According to the National Bank of Georgia, the annual growth of deposits without taking into account the exchange rate was 11.57%.
