A memorandum signed by Georgia's government in China will enhance environmental and agricultural cooperation between the two nations. It specifically covers the chicken meat exports, including chicken necks and legs, to China.

Zurab Uchumbegashvili, head of the Georgian Poultry Development Association and founder of "Kumisi," said on "Commersant" radio that this is a very interesting and important prospect for Georgian producers.

He noted that chicken legs and necks, unpopular in Georgia, are a delicacy in China, which is seeking them worldwide.

"Georgia produces only 30-32% to meet domestic needs; the rest is imported. I'm talking about whole chickens. If, thanks to the agreement, the product is exported to China, then essentially, 2-3 curs of poultry  that are not so popular in our market and can’t be sold at a normal price will become so in demand and will reduce the cost of a whole chicken so much that we will be able to increase production. In fact, China has a chicken deficit. According to last year's data, necks and legs accounted for 41% of the total imports to China. In short, it's such an acceptable product for them that they will buy any quantity," says Zurab Uchumbegashvili.
