Car parking at the airport can unexpectedly add a hefty chunk to the cost of a trip for passengers. However, car parking provides a significant source of revenue, and as airports look to recoup the millions lost throughout the pandemic, even free drop-off and pick-up areas are fast becoming a thing of the past.

The price of airport parking varies greatly, ranging from $26.74 for the world's most affordable to a staggering $538 at the other end of the scale. These figures have been collected by MoneyBarn, representing one week's parking in the long-term car park, not pre-booked, at the end of May 2023. With the peak summer season upon us, where does your local departure point fall on the list of the world's most expensive airports for car parking?

São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) comes out as the world's cheapest airport for car parking, with the second-busiest airport in South America charging just $26.74 for one week.

In second place is Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) at $29.43, despite a 161% increase compared to last year. Rounding out the top three is Antalya Airport (AYT), also in Turkey, at $32.01.

The cheapest airport for car parking in the US is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which came in at fifth-cheapest in the overall list, with prices as low as $34.99 for one week.

Doha's Hamad International Airport (DOH) is the airport that has seen the most significant price increase overall, with car parking prices at the home of Qatar Airways going up by an incredible 409% year-on-year.

London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at $324 and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) at $245 complete the top three.
