Hundreds in DC rally against Trump, Musk efforts to downsize federal government

Hundreds of people protested outside the U.S. Capitol Monday afternoon, criticizing moves made by the President and Elon Musk to downsize and purge the federal government.

Those attending chanted “Elon Musk has got to go!” and held signs reading “Protect our federal workers,” among others.

To date, about 75,000 federal workers have accepted the administration’s differed resignation offer.

Meanwhile, mass firings have begun at the Centers for Disease Control, the Department of Education and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) was one of the first targets of the Trump administration and was shuttered earlier this month.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the Office of Personnel Management has directed agencies to announce layoffs by 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
