General Motors on Friday laid off more than 200 salaried employees, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources.
The eliminated jobs came mostly from GM's Tech Center in Warren, Michigan and owed to "business conditions," the company said in an internal message.
A spokesman told Business Insider that layoffs in the "low hundreds" mostly hit the design engineering team. Earlier this week, shares in GM soared to their best one-day gain since 2020 on strong SUV and truck sales.
The company still faces headwinds from tariffs and declining electric-vehicle sales.
