6 NATO countries have already financed four defense support packages for Ukraine totaling over $2 billion under the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) initiative.

This initiative, jointly launched by NATO and the United States, began in August of this year. The first package, worth $578 million, was funded by the Netherlands; the second, $495 million, by Denmark, Norway, and Sweden; the third, $500 million, by Germany; and the fourth, $500 million, by Canada. Deliveries of the first two packages began in mid-September. The United States has also finalized arrangements with Canada and Germany for the third and fourth packages.

“The program is working and actively helping. It allows us to purchase American weapons with funding from our Alliance partners, such as missiles for Patriot systems and HIMARS rockets,” emphasized the President of Ukraine.

The U.S. is currently coordinating the fifth and sixth packages with Ukraine, while work on the seventh through tenth packages has also begun. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Iceland have expressed readiness to contribute to the fifth package.

Ukraine expects to further expand the program in October, with the overall goal of adding $1 billion each month.

The PURL initiative is designed to ensure rapid delivery of systems and weapons available from the U.S., strengthening Ukraine’s position and creating conditions for a just and lasting peace
