Georgia has secured enough wheat to cover two  months of consumption, import and flour prices are also stable, - Levan Silagava, executive director of the Georgian Wheat and Flour Production Association, said at a press conference held at the Mtavari Media Center.

Levan Silagava also spoke about wheat imports from Kazakhstan noting that the country has a high yield, but the logistics chain does not allow to bring a large amount into the country.

"As for Kazakhstan, we have our finger on the pulse as well as with Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.

Kazakhstan sees high yields, but due to the logistics chain,  wheat can't  be brought in large volumes. Perhaps the issue will be solved in the future.

The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Georgia got in touch with us, There are certain consultations with the Kazakh side, but if Kazakhstan fails to solve  logistics issue, then it may not be intensive.

Hypothetically, the price in Kazakhstan could be lower, but transportation is more expensive. The price should allow us to compete with Russia. Russia remains a stable supplier. Stocks are the highest defense mechanism. If the country has a stock, it does not matter where it get the product from. Today, the country has a two-month stock, Georgian farmers have wheat stocks they are selling now. Wheat is intensively imported. If the country faces any problems, it will switch to other markets," Silagava said at a press conference at the Mtavari media center.
