The Georgian government has decided to double the student admission quotas at state universities for the 2028-2029 academic year.
According to the information released by the Ministry of Education, the government explained this decision by saying that students in grades 11 and 12 will complete their studies at schools simultaneously for the corresponding academic year.
"The change will also affect the master's degree level, as most bachelor's programs have switched to a 3-year study model. In the 2027-2028 academic year, the majority of students enrolled in both 2024 and 2025 will complete their bachelor's programs. Accordingly, the number of students admitted to master's programs at state universities will also increase for the 2028-2029 academic year.
We remind you that the duration of the general education level is changing within the framework of the reform. The duration of the secondary school level is determined by grades X-XI. The 12th grade will be optional and those who wish, based on prior registration, will have the opportunity to continue their studies in the 12th grade. An organized repetitorium will be provided in schools for 11th graders, which will allow +students to fully prepare for national exams. This innovation will apply to students who are currently studying in the ninth grade," reads the information.
