With 237 inmates per 100,000 inhabitants Georgia ranked second among Council of Europe (CoE) member states with national incarceration rates, according to the CoE Annual Penal Statistics (SPACE I) report.
Turkey tops the list with 355 inmates per 100,000 inhabitants.
The European average is 117 inmates. The average length of stay at prison is 8.5 months, in Georgia - 14 months.
