Unfortunately, European bureaucracy has not proven strong enough to protect Europe’s objective interests. The deficit of sovereignty is the main problem across Europe.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze made this statement to journalists while discussing a letter by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

As the Prime Minister noted, European bureaucracy is controlled by external influences.

"Unfortunately, events have unfolded on the European continent. The European Union has suffered significant damage. Unfortunately, European bureaucracy has not proven strong enough to protect Europe’s objective interests. This has one main reason: European bureaucracy is, unfortunately, essentially controlled by external influences. As a result, they struggle to make decisions based on objective interests. This is the main problem—the deficit of sovereignty. The deficit of sovereignty is the main issue across Europe. Only a few states within the EU remain that steadfastly defend their independence and sovereignty," the Prime Minister stated.

According to him, when membership in the EU is presented as a trade-off for giving up one’s values or peace, it is a false dilemma.

"When they present giving up our values or peace as a condition for EU membership, indirectly hinting at all this, it is a false dilemma. We want to join the EU while maintaining peace, fostering development, and preserving traditional values. We will not deviate from these principles," the Prime Minister noted.

For context, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili wrote on social media that the goal of Georgia’s membership in the European Union is truly a safer and more secure future. As he noted, the fact that the EU was created for peace does not automatically mean peace. According to him, Europe must not indulge in self-satisfaction. Georgians know very well that the distance from peace to war is a mere blink of an eye.
