We continue to support civil society organizations and independent media. 8.5 million euros have already been allocated for them, - Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, said at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament.

According to her, they are also ready to allocate an additional 7 million euros for communication activities.

The European Commissioner notes that the response to the disinformation spread by the Georgian Dream leadership must be strengthened.

The Commission has already suspended more than 100 million euros of funding that was directly intended for the Georgian authorities and we are considering the possibility of further redistributing the funds. We have also made a proposal to partially suspend the EU Visa Facilitation Agreement with Georgia in order to impose visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports issued by Georgia. The EU member states will vote on this proposal at the end of January. At the same time, we continue to support civil society organizations and independent media, for which we have already allocated €8.5 million. We are also ready to allocate an additional €7 million for communication activities, and we must strengthen our response to the disinformation spread by the Georgian Dream leadership,” the European Commissioner noted.
