Georgia will be connected to Turkey by a new highway. The existing coastal road will be replaced with a new 11.3-kilometer asphalt-concrete road, which will link to the Batumi Bypass Road via a new bridge over the Chorokhi River. The key section of the new highway will be a 7.6-kilometer tunnel that bypasses residential areas.

The tender covers supervision of construction works, with an estimated value of 14 million USD. The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank. According to the published statement, the supervision services will last for 48 months. Interested companies must submit their proposals in English through the Asian Development Bank’s website no later than September 22, 2025.

The 11.3-kilometer road project will bypass the settlements of Gonio, Kvariati, and Sarpi. The total length of the planned road is 11.4 kilometers. The project includes the construction of a junction, three overpasses, and a two-lane tunnel. Additionally, expansion works are planned on the final section of the road within the village of Sarpi.

The road corridor will start from the right bank of the Chorokhi River with the construction of a junction, followed by an overpass across the river. After the bridge, near the village of Charnali, the corridor will continue through a 7.6-kilometer tunnel that will run beneath the villages of Charnali and Akhalsoflebi. After the tunnel, the road will extend towards Sarpi and, via a bridge, will connect to the existing international E70 highway in the Sarpi area, where the carriageway will be expanded up to the Georgia–Turkey border, according to the project description.
