Bloomberg: the ruble has become the strongest currency in 2025

Over the past 12 months, the Russian ruble has demonstrated its strongest strengthening since 1994, outpacing the exchange rates of major currencies against the dollar in 2025. This was reported by Bloomberg on December 24.

According to the agency, in 2025, the ruble entered the top 5 most profitable global assets, second only to platinum, silver, palladium and gold. Since the beginning of the year, the ruble has strengthened by 45% and is currently trading at about 78 rubles per dollar.

"The ruble has strengthened by 45% since the beginning of the year and is trading at about 78 per dollar. <...> Over the past 12 months, the price increase has been the highest since at least 1994, the data show," the publication says.

One of the reasons for the ruble's growth, according to Bloomberg, was a decrease in demand for foreign currency in Russia. In addition, ruble-denominated assets have become more attractive to Russians due to the current monetary policy of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, which also contributed to the strengthening of the ruble.

Candidate of Economic Sciences, financial expert Vladimir Grigoriev reported on December 23 that the current strengthening of the national currency is influenced by both fundamental and market factors. In his opinion, Russia is now only partially present in the global financial system due to sanctions.
