Currently, according to our site, about 141 thousand people are actively seeking employment in the country. That’s how many applicants are registered on the HR.GE platform, - Inga Shakhbazian, Sales Director, Web Department at Hr Ge, states.
In her words, the number of vacancies is below the number of applicants, due to a decline in the job market.
«In 3 months of this summer, we have a 9% decrease in vacancies compared with the same period last year,» - Inga Shakhbazian points out.
The PMC Research Centre confirms a decline in vacancies. According to the latest data by the organization, in May- July 2025, 23,232 vacancies were placed on jobs.ge that is 3.5% less than in the same period of 2024. The largest decrease, almost 11%, was observed in logistics, transport and distribution during this period.
Experts see signs of stagnation in the labor market and argue that the labor market has already reached its peak, and the number of vacancies is unlikely to increase significantly this year or in the coming years. According to labor market experts, a reduction in the number of job vacancies is strongly related to a decrease in economic activity and the deterioration of business sentiment, as a result of which, they mention a decline in the demand for labor today.
Against this backdrop, the unemployment rate in the country has also increased. The Statistics Office reports that in the second quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 0.6% compared with the same period last year and stood at 14.3%.
Speaking about salaries, Inga Shakhbazian says that in three months of this year, salaries in almost all sectors remained the same.
«The only sector with certain advantages is retail trade. Due to high staff turnover, the sector has been forced to offer benefits such as training funding to potential employees in order to attract new staff. We know that most young people work in retail trade», - Shakhbazian notes.
Note: The number of hired personnel in the country, according to the latest data, exceeds 997 thousand people.
