In the I quarter of 2023, the number of arrivals of international non-resident travellers in the territory of Georgia equaled 1.2 million, which is 2.1 times higher compared to the data from the same period of previous year. Most of the incomes, 48.7 percent, were made by travellers of 31-50 age group.

The number of visits by international visitors3 from above-mentioned number made up 1.1 million, which is 2.1 times higher compared to the data from the same period of 2022.

In the I quarter of 2023 the number of international visitors equaled to 873.3 thousand that is 2.0 times higher compared to the data from the same period of previous year. In the reporting period, international visitors have made 845.3 thousand tourist-type visits, which is 83.8 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of previous year. The chart below shows the distribution of visits made by international visitors by the type of visit.

79.8 percent of international visitors were only tourists. The share of excursionists5 amounted to 15.9 percent, while 4.3 percent of visitors were both tourists and same-day visitors.

In I quarter of 2023 the largest number of visitors (220.7 thousand visitors) was from Russian Federation, which amounts to 25.3 percent of total number of visitors. On second place is Turkey with 17.6% share and on third place – Armenia with 15.0% share. Correspondingly, the largest number of visits were made by the citizens of Russian Federation (256.8 thousand), Turkey (216.4 thousand) and Armenia (182.5 thousand).

The majority of visitors (50.2 percent) belonged to the age group of 31-50 years. The number of women equaled to 34.2 percent of the total number of visitors.

In I quarter of 2023, the purpose of the majority of visits (46.3 percent) was holiday, leisure and recreation.

The majority of visits comes on Tbilisi and Adjara A/R, 559.5 thousand and 333.8 thousand accordingly.

In I quarter of 2023 the average number of nights spent during the visits equaled to 6.0 nights, which is 8.3 percent lower than the figure indicated in I quarter of 2022 (6.5 nights). 79.4 percent of visits was repeating visit. The chart below shows the distribution of visits by the level of satisfaction in I quarter of 2023.

The expenditures during the visits made in I quarter of 2023 equaled to 2.0 billion GEL, which is 40.8 percent higher compared to the data from the same period of previous year. Average expenditure on the visit decreased by 31.7 percent compared to I quarter of 2022 and amounted to 1 898.6 GEL.
