"Khobi 2 HPP is the largest hydro power plant built in Georgia since the Soviet era," stated Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, during his speech at the official launch ceremony of the Khobi 2 HPP today.

The Head of Government of Georgia noted that the installed capacity of the plant is 44.5 MW, with an electricity generation capacity of 202 million kWh.

"This is a very important project that will contribute to the further development of our economy and strengthen our energy independence. The processes began in 2015, and the hydro power station is already in operation. I would like to express my special thanks to the representatives of Georgian Investment Group for Energy LLC and its CEO Lasha Iordanishvili, for the implementation of this remarkable project. I would also like to extend my gratitude to this company for its high social responsibility. Numerous significant social projects have been carried out alongside the construction of this power plant, including the rehabilitation of the river's fish population, support for the local song and dance folk ensemble, as well as assistance to a vocal-instrumental ensemble, support for the Niko Kvaratskhelia Foundation to fund the education of talented youth, the promotion and breeding of the endemic species of bees in Mukhuri, and support for the Chkhorotsku football team, among others. This, of course, is a demonstration of high social responsibility, and once again, a huge thank you to the company and its leadership for all of this," noted Irakli Kobakhidze.

The Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized that the government has ambitious goals, aiming for electricity production in Georgia to exceed consumption by 2030.

"We have very ambitious plans in terms of economic growth. We have had a very good four years of economic growth, during which our economy increased by 40 billion GEL. According to our plans, Georgia's economy should grow by another 40 billion over the next four years. Economic growth must be accompanied by the strengthening of our energy resources, and in this regard, such projects are very important. We have also made progress in terms of utilizing our energy resources. By 2012, our electricity generation was 3359 megawatts, and the installed capacity has increased to 4600 megawatts over the past 12 years, representing a 37% increase in our energy resources. We also have an ambitious plan for the installed capacity to exceed 8000 megawatts by 2028 and reach 10 000 megawatts by 2030. Our ambitious goal is to ensure that electricity generation in Georgia exceeds electricity consumption by 2030, which means we will be a completely self-sufficient and independent country in terms of electricity, leading to greater national independence. All necessary foundations have been laid, and work will continue," stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the project implementation.

"I want to thank the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, particularly Levan Davitashvili, Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister, and the leadership of the ministry, specifically those working in the energy sector. Each of their contributions is significant in the progress our country is making economically and specifically in the energy sector. Once again, I want to thank the company. Our country's economic advancement and the development of the energy sector rely on such companies. I also want to thank everyone involved in the implementation of this crucial project," added the Prime Minister of Georgia.
