Over time, the interest of Georgian farmers in berry production has increased, driven by rising demand in both local and international markets. In 2022, Georgia exported 1,583 tons of berries valued at approximately 9 million dollars, marking a 46% increase in both quantity and value compared to the previous year. Notably, blueberries accounted for nearly 86% of the total exported berries.- TBC Capital research reads

While berries are exported to about 10 countries, Russia stands as the main sales market, with 90% of exports directed toward it.

Blueberry production, in particular, is experiencing significant growth. It is estimated that by 2023, the export volume of fresh blueberries will reach 3,000 tons, increasing to 5,000 tons by 2024.

On the other hand, strawberry production has shown fluctuations over the years, with the highest harvest recorded in 2017 at 2.7 thousand tons. Since 2018, strawberry production has decreased, averaging around 1.25 thousand tons annually. To meet the increased demand in the local market, strawberries are imported from Turkey.

Interest in raspberry and blackberry orchards has declined, leading to the defoliation of more than 50% of blackberry orchards and 40% of raspberry orchards in 2022. Factors contributing to this decline include farmers' lack of knowledge and experience, miscalculations in pricing and maintenance costs, wrong selection of varieties, and other challenges in the production process.
