Demand for eggs has increased as   Easter approaches. The founder of "Kumisi XXI" told "Commersant" that demand has soared by about 30% over the past month. Zurab Uchumbegashvili says that producers will not try to take advantage of the increased demand and will leave egg prices unchanged for Easter.

"In our experience, demand for Easter eggs has grown by 25-30% over the past 15-20 years. There were panic expectations before. Eggs were bought in advance. So it’s hard to give a specific figure for how many we sell for Easter. We produce about 650 million eggs a year. “Over the last month, sales will exceed monthly demand by about 30%,” says Zurab Uchumbegashvili.

Unlike previous years, eggs will not be imported into the country for Easter. Georgia’s

two main importing countries are Turkey and Ukraine. However, due to the chicken flu in Turkey, egg prices have risen dramatically. Meanwhile, military actions continue in Ukraine. Despite the above, the founder of Kumisi XXI claims that local producers can fully supply the market with eggs without any problems.

"We have the required quantity, although eggs have not been imported to Georgia for a year, we fully satisfy the demand," Zurab Uchumbegashvili notes.
