The Ukrainian military struck a Russian warship in the port of Novorossiysk as well as a drilling rig in the Black Sea near occupied Crimea overnight, Kyiv’s drone forces commander has said.
The attack targeted the Admiral Makarov warship, which was armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, Robert Brovdi said on the Telegram app.
Brodvi, codenamed “Magyar” because of his Hungarian heritage, is the high-profile head of Ukraine’s elite drone units, nicknamed Magyar’s Birds.
He said air defense missiles were launched from the warship but they “did not prevent” the drones from reaching their target. The extent of the damage is being assessed by intelligence, he added.
The commander also said that the Sivash drilling rig was hit following an operation conducted alongside the deep-strike forces of the Ukrainian Navy.
Earlier, Russian officials said at least eight people were injured, including two children, during the attacks on Novorossiysk, with a number of residential houses sustaining damage.
