U.S. President Donald Trump has said he believes that he is able to secure a settlement to the Ukraine conflict.

"I think we're gonna get it done," Trump said in an interview with CBS News on Monday when asked whether he can get it done "in a couple months".

Trump said that he had managed to solve a number of international conflicts because he warned the sides that if they did not stop fighting, he was going to impose higher tariffs on them.

"I said, in many cases, in 60% I said, 'If you don't stop fighting, I'm putting tariffs on both of your countries and you're not gonna be able to do business with the United [States]," he said.

"It is working with Putin, I think," Trump said.

"I think he really wants to do business with the U.S. [...] I did different with him because we don't do very much business with Russia, for one thing, you know? He's not, like, somebody that buys a lot from us [...] And I think he'd like to be. I think he wants to come in and he wants to trade with us, and he wants to make a lotta money for Russia, and I think that's great," he said.

Earlier, Trump once again blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the start of the conflict in Ukraine.

"I inherited that stupid war. That should not have been a war. That would've never happened if I were president," he said.

According to Trump, there is "no final straw" in the Ukraine conflict settlement that would make him quit this process.

"There's no final straw. Sometimes you have to let it fight out. And they're fighting and they're fighting it out," he said.

At the same time, Trump said that he is not considering the possibility of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Kiev.

Trump also said that he is not participating in any discussions concerning immobilized Russian assets.

"I'm not doing that. What happens is, I guess, Europe and Russia are having discussions. I'm not involved in those discussions," he said.
