Russians will have access to satellite internet on planes, trains, and ships starting in 2027, according to Ksenia Lazarenko, Director of Laser Terminal Development at Bureau 1440.
Lazarenko highlighted the current internet coverage along the Moscow–Vladivostok railway route as “catastrophically small.” She noted that by 2027, when Bureau 1440 begins providing broadband internet access, train passengers can stay connected throughout their entire journey. The same will apply to those traveling by plane or ship.
The company’s primary potential clients include industrial and transportation organizations. Bureau 1440 has already signed agreements with major companies such as Aeroflot and Russian Railways (RZD). Discussions are underway with RZD to equip each train with a subscriber terminal to ensure passengers have access to broadband internet, Lazarenko revealed.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in improving connectivity for travelers across Russia’s vast transportation networks.
