Germany is highly interested in Armenia’s rapprochement with Europe, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said during a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He was responding to a question about Germany’s readiness to support new opportunities for Armenia’s deeper EU integration, including in economic, energy and institutional sectors.
“We have a great interest in Armenia’s rapprochement with Europe. We have agreed on specific projects, and Germany will assist Armenia in several initiatives in the energy supply sector to achieve greater independence in this area,” Merz said.
He added that he and the Armenian Prime Minister had a detailed discussion and reached relevant agreements, which were formalized in a written form. A bilateral plan has been established to work closely together in the coming years.
“After peace with Azerbaijan, there is a historic opportunity to place this process on a broad, stable and European foundation,” the Chancellor noted. He also emphasized that Europe remains a strong attraction for countries in the South Caucasus region.
