The train carrying Russian wheat (15 wagons) to Armenia via Azerbaijan and Georgia has arrived, the Prime Minister’s Office announced in a press release.

The lifting of restrictions on cargo transportation to Armenia by Azerbaijan is an important step toward restoring regional communications and promoting economic cooperation. It represents one of the practical implementations of the agreements reached in Washington, contributing to the institutionalization of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the statement said.

It emphasized that the initiative is particularly important in the context of strengthening mutual trust and advancing the peace agenda.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have lifted all restrictions on the transit shipment of goods to each other following the U.S.-brokered peace summit on August 8. The first of these shipments consists of Russian and Kazakh grain cargoes, with the latter also expected to arrive soon via Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Armenian Vice Speaker of Parliament Ruben Rubinyan earlier described the transit shipments as “historic.”

This is a historic event. The last time something like this happened was probably in 1991 or 1992, that is, before the active phase of the war,” he said.
