This will probably become known in the fall, when the new zoo welcomes its first visitors. In the words of the Tbilisi Zoo director Zurab Gurielidze, currently, the construction of outdoor enclosures for large predators is underway.

According to him, the project is carried out with the funds allocated by the mayor's office and the zoo's income.

"The works will be completed this year, although everything depends on funding."

Apart from the enclosures, this year we plan to arrange protective barriers, paths and other,” says Zurab Gurielidze.

Zurab Gurielidze is not sure whether the functioning zoo will continue to operate after the new zoo opens.

Tbilisi Zoo Director adds that interest in the zoo has increased, although its work directly depends on the weather.

Note: after the tragedy of June 13, 2015, a decision was made to move the Tbilisi Zoo to a new location on the territory of the Tbilisi Sea,

its area will be 48 hectares. According to Zurab Gurielidze, about $ 50 million are needed to fully equip the new zoo.
