We have conducted some analysis and we believe that, with the exception of some specialties, we should move to a 3+1 system, where 3 years will be devoted to a bachelor's degree and 1 year to a master's degree, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated during the presentation of the education reform.
According to him, both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree should have clearly defined tasks, which is not provided today.
"Three years is quite enough for almost all specialties. Of course, medicine and similar specialties are an exception. In other cases, in almost all cases, it is possible to receive a bachelor's degree in three years and a master's degree in one year. Also, we are planning to present certain plans in other directions in a short time and we think that we should also move to an 11-year curriculum in some schools, the Ministry of Education is also actively working in this direction," the Prime Minister said.
Also, during the presentation of the education reform, Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the duration of studies in various faculties and specialties is not based on any in-depth analysis.
As the Prime Minister noted, a certain system was established at one time and since then no one has thought of reviewing the duration of studies.
"Another problem that has been identified by us is that the duration of studies in various faculties and specialties is not based on any in-depth analysis. A certain system was established at one time and no one has thought of reviewing the duration of studies since then, and we have our response to this in this concept.
One problem that should also be highlighted under the second challenge is that the quality management system is fundamentally flawed. The state is responsible for ensuring quality in the higher education system, quality management, and there are many shortcomings here. The quality management system is largely formal in nature and we need serious changes in this regard too," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Prime Minister also noted that the challenges are serious, which is reflected in specific problems, and one of the factors that causes, for example, migration is the current situation in the higher education system.
According to him, very often, young people choose to study abroad, and in this regard, it is very important to improve and correct the current situation in the higher education system.
"Very often, young people choose to study at universities abroad, therefore, this current situation in the higher education system also encourages migration, and in this regard, it is very important to improve and correct the situation. Despite the fact that there are many challenges, we believe that in the medium term, in just a few years, it will be possible to achieve tangible and substantial results in the higher education system," the Prime Minister said.
