A year ago, the entire management of Georgian Railways changed, and this laid the foundation for a number of reforms and changes that have already yielded tangible results over the past year, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said induring his speech at the presentation of the "Historical Renewal" of Georgian Railways.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of connectivity.

Today’s event is very important because Georgian Railways plays a special role in the development of the country. A year ago, the entire management of Georgian Railways changed, and this laid the foundation for a number of reforms and changes that have already given us tangible results during this year.

In general, we should emphasize the importance of connectivity for our country. The development of our country’s transit function is of particular importance for the development of our country, for the development of our country’s economy. Very important investments are being made in this direction from various angles. Large-scale investments are being made for the development of expressways, and by 2030, practically all the most important sections will have been built. We have very ambitious plans for airports. The capabilities of Kutaisi International Airport are being significantly expanded, and in 2031, Tbilisi will have a completely new international airport that will be able to host approximately 18 million passengers per year, which is important both for the development of connectivity and for better utilization of the tourism potential. We have an ambitious plan to build the Anaklia Port, which is one of the most important infrastructure facilities and which will also contribute to the development of the connectivity function. In all this, the development of the railway is given special importance. That is why the government pays special attention to the development of the Georgian Railway,” the Prime Minister said.
