“We are awaiting the official position of Washington on resetting U.S.-Georgia relations. The initiatives put forward by Congressman Joe Wilson are not of interest to us,” the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze made the remarks in response to a question about provisions concerning Georgia included in the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
According to the prime minister, the provision was inserted into the congressional bill at the initiative of Congressman Joe Wilson, which he described as “unserious” and “laughable.”
“It is absolutely laughable to see such a provision. As you know, the initiative belongs to Joe Wilson, and this wording was included in the congressional act at the initiative of a single individual. Therefore, we do not consider it either serious or of interest. Yesterday, Iran was also portrayed as having a very deep presence in Georgia, and today that representation has completely disappeared—a small ironic observation,” Kobakhidze said.
He reiterated that the Georgian government is looking for an official response from the U.S. administration regarding the future of bilateral ties.
“Our message is very clear. We want to renew the strategic partnership based on a concrete roadmap and to start from a clean slate. We are waiting for the official position of the United States on this issue. As for the rest, Joe Wilson’s initiatives and the amendments introduced at his initiative are not of interest to us,” the prime minister stated
