The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has stated that Ukraine has shown a clear will for peace, while Russia, according to her, has not done the same.
In her comments, Kallas stressed that more than four weeks have passed since Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, but Moscow has not offered a similar response.
"It is clear that Ukraine wants peace, but Russia, so far, does not," she said, underlining the lack of commitment on the Russian side to stop the fighting, Euronews Albania reports. KosovaPress.
Kallas also spoke about the uncertainties surrounding the role of the security force on the ground, saying it should be clearer whether its task is conflict prevention, situation monitoring or active peacekeeping.
"This is directly related to whether or not we have peace. So far, we have no peace," she said.
Asked about the lack of involvement of the US Secretary of Defense in the current talks, Kallas avoided a direct answer, but stressed the importance of the American role in the stability of the continent.
"It is also in the interest of the US that there is stability and peace in Europe. We need to determine what we can all do together and try to keep the United States on board as well," Kallas said.
