EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, expressed concern over democratic backsliding in Georgia. He emphasized that the upcoming elections will be crucial for the country’s future, as Georgians will have to decide whether to align with Europe or move away from it.

Speaking to journalists ahead of the European Council meeting in Brussels, Borrell remarked on the worrying state of democracy in Georgia. He highlighted that the upcoming elections are a pivotal moment for the nation, where voters must make a decisive choice about their country's future direction.

"There is clearly a democratic backsliding in Georgia. The next elections will be the moment of truth, and the Georgian people must decide which way they want to go, towards Europe or away from it. This is an important moment for us, and even more so for Georgians, because the future of the country is at stake," Borrell said.
