Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, met the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Qiang, the Government Administration reported.
The Head of Government of Georgia thanked Premier Li Qiang for the invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and underlined the positive dynamics of the strategic partnership and bilateral relations between Georgia and China.
The meeting highlighted fruitful cooperation in the areas of trade and economy, tourism and technology. The sides also focused on collaboration within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and highlighted the importance of developing the Middle Corridor.
The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed gratitude to the Premier of the State Council of China for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and reaffirmed the support of the Government of Georgia for the One China Principle.
“Relations between Georgia and China continue to develop steadily, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and cooperation.
We sincerely value China’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its unwavering commitment to the policy of non-recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories.
Georgia supports the One China Principle and China’s territorial integrity.
This friendship and mutual understanding have naturally translated into dynamic economic cooperation between our countries.
China is among Georgia’s top four trading partners. The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has significantly contributed to the growth of bilateral trade, and Georgian exports to China have increased substantially.
We are also pleased to see a growing trend in freight turnover. In January-August 2025, the number of containers shipped through Georgia between China and Europe via the Middle Corridor increased by 70.6% compared to the same period last year.
We are ready to deepen cooperation further to expand transport flows between China and Europe through Georgia.
Building on these achievements, investment remains one of the most promising areas of cooperation. In the first two quarters of 2025, investments from China to Georgia amounted to 7.43 million USD- a 229% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. We believe that this positive dynamic will continue and further strengthen our economic partnership.
Historically, China has been a central pillar of the Silk Road, shaping trade and cultural relations for centuries. Georgia, as an important part of the Middle Corridor, is ready to expand cooperation with China to promote regional connectivity and trade.
We believe that the positive dynamics and high-level relations between our countries will continue and grow even stronger, reaffirming our shared commitment to deepening ties and ensuring the long-term prosperity of our peoples,” – stated Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia.
Premier of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang emphasized the importance of Georgia’s participation in the International Import Expo and expressed readiness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.
“Thank you for participating in the International Import Expo. Georgia is taking part this year for the first time as a guest of honor, which provides a unique opportunity to showcase Georgian products. I am confident that Georgian companies will soon see tangible results from their participation.
In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of our two countries, bilateral relations have developed intensively. In 2023, our nations established a strategic partnership, and since then, mutually beneficial cooperation has been expanding across various fields.
China is grateful to Georgia for its sincere friendship. We wish to further strengthen strategic communication with Georgia, expand practical cooperation, and, through joint efforts, bring even greater benefits to our peoples,” – stated Li Qiang.
Following the meeting between the two Prime Ministers, several memoranda of cooperation were signed between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China in various areas.
The documents were signed, together with their counterparts, by Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; David Songhulashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; and Paata Kalandadze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the People’s Republic of China.
