Georgia’s strained relations with the EU have diminished the IT sector's interest in our country. Blockchain expert David Kiziria notes in an interview with «Commersant» that the Russian-Ukrainian war made Georgia a desirable destination for relocation, but this trend has recently been on the decline.
«Relocators arrived in our country after the events of 2020 in Belarus, as well as after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, a downward trend is already seen, which I think will continue. To some extent, Georgia was considered as an intermediate point from which they tried to move to more comfortable jurisdictions. On the other hand, Georgia was interesting as a territory, a jurisdiction that converged with the EU. However, after recent events, when the EU and Georgia have strained relations, including sanctions, this interest is declining. The figures also show that the government’s decision to issue temporary permits to specialists with a salary of more than 25 thousand dollars is not a factor that will attract new or at least keep existing flows», says Kiziria.
According to an international blockchain expert, Armenia is currently more attractive to the IT sector than Georgia.
"If you look at Estonia and Portugal, these countries have a much stronger ecosystem that is required for IT specialists. They have a more developed start-up and financial ecosystem that facilitates the launch of business
which we currently lack. Additionally, they provide an environment that offers secondary comfort, something we also do not possess. For example, moving
across the civilized world is significantly easier and more affordable. To compete with this world, we must develop more robust and inspiring tools. Even Armenia appears more attractive today than Georgia. I don't believe the trend of leaving Georgia is driven by Armenia's attractiveness only. I think the problem is more the attitude towards Georgia," Kiziria points out in an interview with "Commersant."
