«Georgia has over 7,000 geologically hazardous zones», geologist Alexander Tvalchrelidze states.

He notes that, when examining Tbilisi alone, some of the most dangerous constructions are on Zhvania street, as well as on Mount Mtatsminda (near the cable car). The geologist emphasizes that these houses should be demolished and the slope reinforced.

The geologist also touched on the Vashlijvari slope issue. According to him, any movement of the hand could trigger a landslide.

In his words, the mentioned site is entirely a landslide slope that can be caused by an earthquake, heavy rain, construction, communications and even laying drainage systems.

Recall that the cracks in Vashlijvari emerged last year in unison with the ongoing construction there.

«I don’t think anything has changed in Vashlijvari. The road that is being built there passes over a landslide, and cuts off the base of the landslide.

One thing I do know: this is a completely landslide-resistant slope that has been in balance with its environment for tens of thousands of years. Any movement of the hand can provoke a landslide. Unfortunately, I have no information on the extent of damage to the Vashlijvari landslide.

Whatever the situation now when its base is cut, I do not know what can be done there... In general, when a landslide moves and meets some obstacle it stops, comes into balance. If you remove this obstacle from the landslide, it can start moving again. It is precisely this base that was cut and paved. At the time, the Georgian Military Road was laid out in such a way that the builders did not touch the landslide, because our specialists were among the best in the world. The landslide was completely avoided. I mean the Agmashenebeli alley and so on», - Alexander Tvalchrelidze points out.
